Triads - the natural arrangement of ideas or things into groups of three - seem to have been incredibly popular and feature prominently in the native oral traditions and literature of Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Brittany. Many of these triads are witty, with an amusing climax - or anticlimax - in the third element. A favourite Irish triad of mine is:
 
"Three candles that illumine every darkness:
Truth,
Nature,
Knowledge."
 
The beautifully interweaving dual points of these triad earrings could also represent a variety of other significant trios: land, sea and sky; birth, life and death; maiden, mother and crone; past, present and future; or the Holy Trinity. One thing we know for sure is that the Celts understood that three was a very mystical and powerful number!
